The State Security Committee (KGB) said it had detained a group of Belarusian citizens suspected of collecting classified information about defense industry enterprises for a “foreign handler.”
According to the KGB, those detained collected “information about the production capacities of enterprises, the movement of certain types of products and their employees. Specially created communication channels were allegedly used to transmit the information.”
During operational activities, “communication devices and electronic storage media” were seized, as well as money that, according to the authorities, members of the group received for carrying out assignments.
A criminal case has been opened. The article under which it was initiated was not specified. The KGB also did not disclose the number of people detained, their names or the enterprises about which they allegedly collected information.
There is currently no independent confirmation of the information presented by the KGB.
