Eyewitnesses report that drones struck the Kirishinefteorgsintez (KINEF) oil refinery in the city of Kirishi in Russia’s Leningrad Region. The attack was indirectly confirmed by Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko.
“Forty-two UAVs were shot down over the Leningrad Region. As a result of the UAV attack, a fire was reported in the industrial zone of the city of Kirishi, and emergency services are working at the scene. Combat operations continue”, the Russian official wrote on his Telegram channel.
Ukrainian monitoring channel @exilenova_plus added that the reported strike occurred in the area of the critical L-35-11/1000, LCh-35-11/600, LCh-35-11/600 and AT-1 units, as well as the LCh-24-9/2000 hydrotreating unit.
Kirishinefteorgsintez is fully integrated into the structure of Russian oil company Surgutneftegas. It is the only oil refinery in northwestern Russia and one of the largest in the country.
