Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the talks in Geneva ended with progress in one area. According to him, the military track is working constructively, while on political issues there are some developments, but positions remain different.

“As for the substance of the talks. First of all, you know there are two tracks: military and political. Here I want to say that all three sides on the military track were constructive. In my view, in general, the military understand how to monitor a ceasefire and the end of the war,” he said, as quoted by RBK-Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president noted that the military had agreed on almost everything. Monitoring will be carried out with the participation of the US side. According to him, the details will be reported to him by Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov after his return.

The results of the talks on the political component, which includes the fate of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and territorial issues, are more modest.

“We see that there are developments, but for now positions are different, because the talks were not easy. That is, on the military track I heard progress. On the political track, there was dialogue, and we agreed to move forward,” he said.

The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Rustem Umerov, said in a brief statement to the press following the talks that the discussions were intensive and substantive. According to him, they focused on security parameters and mechanisms for implementing possible decisions, and a number of issues were clarified.

“We are focused on working through the key provisions necessary to complete the process. This is complex work that requires coordinated action by all parties within fairly short timeframes. There is progress, but details cannot be disclosed at this stage.

The next step is to reach the necessary level of consensus to present the developed solutions for consideration by the presidents. Our task is to prepare a practical, not merely formal, basis for this. Ukraine maintains a constructive attitude. The ultimate goal remains unchanged: a just and sustainable peace,” he said.
