Belarusian potash exports to China increased in January–May, according to China’s customs statistics for the first five months of the year. China significantly increased its imports of potash fertilizers in May, while prices continued to rise.
China imported 7.42 million tonnes of potash fertilizers in January–May, up 31.8% compared with the same period last year. In value terms, imports rose 66.9% to $2.68 billion.
In May alone, China purchased 1.61 million tonnes of potash fertilizers, 65.8% more than in May of last year. In value terms, imports doubled to $585.1 million. Compared with April, import volumes also increased.
Imports of potash fertilizers from Belarus totaled $632.6 million in January–May, an increase of 85.5% year-on-year. Supplies from other countries also rose: imports from Russia increased by 44% to $855.5 million, from Canada by 79.1% to $474.3 million, from Laos by 88.1% to $429.5 million, and from Israel by 27.9% to $118.5 million.
In May, Chinese buyers imported $94.7 million worth of potash fertilizers from Belarus, almost three times more than a year earlier.
According to Chinese customs statistics, the total value of imports of goods from Belarus increased by 25.2% year-on-year to $956.9 million in January–May.
