The Belarusian railway workers’ community has reported a rolling stock collision that occurred at Lida station during the humping of wagons from a classification yard. According to the resource, the incident took place on June 8 at 21:07.
“During shunting operations involving the humping of wagons from the classification yard at Lida station on June 8, 2026, an incident related to violations of railway traffic safety and operational regulations occurred, which, under the classification adopted by the Belarusian Railway, constitutes a collision of railway rolling stock during shunting operations,” the report says.
According to the authors, a scheduled personnel change took place at the station at 20:00 that evening. After taking over the shift, the hump yard duty officer allegedly failed to ensure that rolling stock was properly positioned and that the tracks were clear for shunting operations, contrary to job instructions. The wagon humping speed regulator also reportedly failed to verify that the tracks were actually clear.
As a result, during the humping process, the second cut of cars, consisting of gondola wagon No. 60806676, collided while moving onto Track No. 11 with wagon No. 64487648, which was located between switch points. Both wagons sustained damage, although no derailment occurred, the report says.
According to the authors, the management of Lida station and the relevant Belarusian Railway structural divisions allegedly attempted, by prior agreement, to conceal the incident.
“The collision was not officially recorded, its consequences were not documented in the prescribed manner, and the case itself was effectively kept outside the scope of any official investigation,” they write.
