Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya thanked Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha for his statements regarding sanctions against Alyaksandr Lukashenka. The leader of the democratic forces described the actions of the Ukrainian side as “principled and decisive” and said that joint efforts would lead to peace in Ukraine and freedom in Belarus.
“Belarus belongs to Europe. I thank Ukraine and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha for today’s principled and powerful actions against Lukashenka’s criminal regime, an accomplice in Russia’s war of aggression. Our joint efforts will deliver justice, peace for Ukraine, and freedom for Belarus,” the politician wrote on X.
It should be recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy imposed sanctions against Alyaksandr Lukashenka on February 18. The sanctions were introduced, among other reasons, for the deployment in Belarus of a relay system for controlling strike drones and include the stripping of Ukrainian state awards, asset freezes, restrictions on trade operations, transit limitations, a ban on participation in privatisation and other measures.
Tsikhanouskaya welcomed the introduction of the sanctions, saying that a free Belarus would never threaten Ukraine or Europe.
Sybiha described the sanctions against Lukashenka as an adequate response, called on partner countries to exert pressure on Lukashenka and expressed confidence in the European future of the Belarusian people.
