Belarus must not be a threat to its neighbours or an instrument of imperial aggression. This is how Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya commented on today’s drone incident and the declaration of an air raid alert in Lithuania.
“Today, my thoughts are with all residents of Vilnius who were forced to seek shelter because of a drone alert. This is not the future we want for Europe. Lithuania is close to my heart, and to many Belarusians who found safety, solidarity, and friendship there. Belarus must never be a threat to its neighbors or a tool of imperial aggression. It must be free, sovereign, and a source of security for Europe“, Tsikhanouskaya wrote on X.
Earlier today, an air raid alert was declared in Lithuania because of a drone. The warning in Vilnius was issued at the red level, which requires people to proceed to shelters. Operations at Vilnius Airport were suspended.
The alert was later cancelled after the object disappeared from radar. It remains unknown whether the drone crashed or continued flying. There is also no information about the type of drone — whether it was armed or a decoy. The radar signal disappeared near the settlement of Merkinė, not far from Druskininkai. However, local authorities received no reports of an unmanned aerial vehicle.
