Belarusian tenth-grade students will be sent to field training camps in May. The camps will begin on 25 May and last for 10 days (60 hours). Boys will stay at the camps on a round-the-clock basis, with conditions designed to resemble army life.
“Field training camps are held to improve subject-specific competencies and practical skills in the school subject ‘Pre-Conscription and Medical Training'”, the Education Ministry said.
If it is not possible to organise the camps as residential programmes, they will be held during the same period at schools and гимназии.
“To achieve maximum effect”, the camps are to involve cooperation with military units, military departments and faculties, and military educational institutions. These institutions are expected to provide personnel, military equipment, training equipment and teaching materials.
Promotion of school students to the 11th grade will depend on the results of the camps. Exemptions may only be granted for medical reasons.
For girls, 60 hours of practical medical training are предусмотрены. These classes are to be organised using the facilities of healthcare institutions, regional branches of the Belarusian Red Cross Society or regional divisions of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. If this is not possible, the classes may be held directly at schools. The Education Ministry recommends involving medical professionals and using simulation methods.
