Criminal investigation officers from the Interior Ministry, together with colleagues from Minsk and with the support of Almaz Special Anti-Terrorism Unit and riot police officers, arrested a suspect in the armed robbery of a jewelry store. The Interior Ministry’s press service reported that the man was identified and detained within 24 hours of the crime.
The attack took place on Aug. 21 at around 5:57 p.m. An unidentified man wearing a medical mask entered a jewelry store in Minsk and threatened a sales clerk with an object resembling a pistol. He then went behind the display counter, stole jewelry and fled.
After the alarm button was activated, information about the attack and the suspect’s description was relayed to all police patrols. Interior Ministry video surveillance officers monitored the search operation in real time.
The suspect was identified as a 34-year-old Minsk resident. He attempted to leave the country with the stolen jewelry but was detained.
The Investigative Committee reported that police officers detained the suspect in Orsha. Investigative and other procedural actions are being carried out with his participation. An object resembling a pistol was found at the Minsk resident’s home. A criminal case has been opened on robbery under Part 2 of Article 207.
