U.S. President’s Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale said a large group of Belarusian political prisoners could be released “in the very near future.” He made the remarks in an interview with The New York Times Moscow correspondent Valerie Hopkins.
Coale also said that Russian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dmitry Muratov had approached him with a request to help organize an exchange of civilian prisoners between Russia and Ukraine. The American diplomat said he had received financial commitments from two organizations to relocate released prisoners to other countries.
