Russia plans to submit an application to the International Court of Justice against Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The stated reason is alleged violations of the rights of Russian-speaking populations.

“We have repeatedly called on Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia to bear international responsibility in connection with these ongoing violations. However, the authorities of these countries refuse to end their unlawful policies, and all attempts to resolve disagreements through negotiations have proven unsuccessful. In this regard, we will evidently have to move our claims into the judicial sphere by applying to the UN’s principal judicial body — the International Court of Justice”, Izvestia quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying.

Russia had previously submitted similar appeals to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and to the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities.
