Officers of the Interior Ministry’s Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption, with the support of the Lynx special forces unit, detained a 43-year-old resident of Orsha. He is suspected of extorting money and property from a Minsk resident.
The detainee had previously been convicted and spent more than 25 years in prison for extortion, fraud, hooliganism, car theft, unlawful deprivation of liberty and threats to kill. He was released in May 2025.
The Interior Ministry said the man had demanded money and property from the Minsk resident for several months. He threatened to use violence, cause bodily harm and kill the victim, and also threatened to disclose information the victim wanted to keep secret. As a result, the victim handed over 6,000 rubles to the extortionist.
A criminal case has been opened. The detainee has been placed in a pretrial detention center. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
