A 58-year-old man from the capital died in Stolin District after being poisoned by a growth accelerator.

According to the State Committee of Forensic Examinations, the Minsk resident had been helping a farmer in Stolin District with household work. He had been cleaning the area. In the evening, the employer noticed that the man was sitting with his head lowered. He approached and asked what had happened. The Minsk resident replied that he had drunk a transparent liquid from a bottle, believing it to be birch sap. The worker suddenly lost consciousness. The farmer took him to hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.

A forensic expert determined that the cause of death was acute poisoning with isodecanol. This substance is used in plant protection products and fertilisers.

“As established during the investigation, the worker drank a concentrated product intended to accelerate plant growth, which resulted in a fatal outcome,” the State Committee of Forensic Examinations said.
