A Belarusian hid cigarettes so securely inside his car that Lithuanian customs officers had to call firefighters for help dismantling the vehicle and removing the contraband.
The Belarusian was crossing the Belarusian-Lithuanian border in a Toyota Corolla Verso at the beginning of March. He said he was not carrying anything prohibited, but Lithuanian customs officers noticed suspicious objects during a scan of the vehicle.
The car was sent for an in-depth manual inspection, but the contraband had been hidden too deeply inside the vehicle’s structure. Customs officers called firefighters for help, and they dismantled the car using special equipment.
Inside, officers found 17,000 packs of cigarettes worth 4,437 euros. The car itself, valued at 1,840 euros, was also seized. An administrative report was drawn up against the driver, Lithuanian customs reported.
