During a ceremony marking the end of the academic year at the Second General Education Lyceum with Additional Belarusian Language Instruction in Hajnowka, a cash award established from the personal funds of Paval Latushka, Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet, was presented to the school’s best teacher of Belarusian language, literature, and history, the United Transitional Cabinet reported.
The initiative is intended to recognize the professionalism and dedication of teachers in Podlaskie who preserve and promote Belarusian culture and history.
The award was presented to Jan Karcheuski, a Belarusian language teacher. Karcheuski is the organizer of the Belarusian Storytelling Competition, has for many years successfully prepared students for the National Belarusian Language Olympiad, and has initiated and organized numerous events aimed at supporting and developing the language and culture of the Belarusian national minority. He also serves as a methodology adviser for Belarusian language teaching at the Teacher Education Center in Bialystok.
“Your dedication, outstanding professionalism, and ability to inspire your students with a love for their native language command the deepest admiration. I bow my head in gratitude for your selfless work and for raising a truly worthy, conscientious, and talented generation of Belarusians,” Latushka wrote in his congratulatory letter.
In the same letter, Latushka addressed the students and graduates of the Hajnowka Lyceum: “I congratulate all students on the official end of the school year, and I wish the graduates every success and admission to the best higher education institutions in Poland and other European countries. You can be genuinely proud of having studied at one of Poland’s finest lyceums and of remaining true to your roots, understanding the importance of preserving the heritage of your ancestors for future generations.”
Latushka has also established a cash award for the winners of the National Festival “Belarusian Song.”
