A 51-year-old Ruslan Rasaeu, a former officer of the military counterintelligence department of the KGB who left the service in 2020, has been placed in a KGB pre-trial detention center, writes Nasha Niva.

According to Belpol, Rasaeu served in military unit 64171 (the KGB military counterintelligence department) since 2006. He was born in the former military settlement of Vietryna in the Polatsk District of the Viciebsk region and graduated from the Suvorov Military School and the Military Academy.

After leaving counterintelligence, Rasaeu was active on social media, posting photos from numerous trips—to the Maldives, Bali, Turkey, Sweden, and Azerbaijan. In some pictures, he can be seen alongside Vadim Galygin. According to a person who encountered Rasaeu in a KGB detention cell, he said that he had at one time performed in Belarusian KVN. The authors suggest that this may explain his acquaintance with Galygin. Rasaeu also claimed that he “knows Zelensky.”

It remains unknown what exactly Rasaeu is accused of and in favor of which state he allegedly committed treason. It is also unclear whether there is a political element in his case.

Under the article on high treason, he faces from 7 to 15 years in prison, and in some cases the death penalty.
