Belintersat to Organise Access to Russian Satellite Internet

Belarusian satellite operator “Belintersat” has signed an agreement with Russian company “Bureau 1440”, which is developing an internet access service based on a low Earth orbit satellite constellation.

Belintersat will organise access to the service in Belarus. The parties agreed to test and integrate the service into Belintersat’s information systems.

According to Bureau 1440, the agreement with the Belarusian company marks its first step at the international level.

“In the long-term scenario, joint work with Bureau 1440 will help reduce the digital divide and provide a new impetus for the development of Belarus’s regions. Importantly, cooperation with partners will also support the implementation of the comprehensive import substitution plan in critical information infrastructure, which will become the foundation for developing shared technological sovereignty,” said Belintersat Technical Director Aleh Viniarski.

Earlier, Belarus’s Ministry of Communications said it was counting on the Russian project to improve internet coverage across the country. In March, the Russian company launched into orbit the first 16 satellites. By 2027, the satellite constellation is planned to expand to 292 units.
