During the April and May holiday period, Belarusian Railway transported more than 2.3 million passengers. Around 70% of trips were made on regional economy-class lines, while more than 150,000 people used international services.
To accommodate passenger demand, more than 100 additional trains were scheduled and nearly the entire passenger rolling stock fleet was deployed.
According to first deputy head of the passenger service Kanstantsin Bayar, demand traditionally remains highest for routes between Minsk and regional cities — Homiel, Vitsyebsk, Hrodna, Mahiliou and Brest. In international traffic, the most popular destinations were St Petersburg, Moscow and the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus.
He noted that high-speed Lastochka trains account for about 26% of journeys, with the remainder served by overnight trains.
