Belarusian GDP Returns to Growth in April

Belarus’ gross domestic product totaled 94.5 billion rubles in January-April. In comparable prices, it increased by 0.2% compared with the same period last year.

The country’s GDP returned to growth following April results. GDP had declined by 0.4% in the first quarter and by 1.2% in January-February.

The GDP deflator index stood at 110% in January-April.

It should be noted that under the official social and economic development forecast approved by Lukashenka, GDP growth is expected to reach 2.8% by the end of the year.

Labor productivity measured by GDP declined by 0.5% in January-March to 16,365.3 rubles.

Agricultural output across all categories of farms totaled 2.06 billion rubles in April, increasing by 3.9% compared with April last year. In agricultural organizations, output rose by 4.2% to 2.02 billion rubles. Over four months, agricultural production across all farm categories increased by 2.9% to 7.6 billion rubles, while output in agricultural organizations rose by 3.2% to 7.5 billion rubles.

In April, agricultural organizations produced 153,000 tonnes of livestock and poultry, up 5.7% year-on-year, while milk production increased by 3.2% to 771,300 tonnes. In January-April, livestock and poultry production rose by 4.6% to 609,600 tonnes, while milk production increased by 2.6% to 3 million tonnes.

Industrial output totaled 18.2 billion rubles in April. In comparable prices, it increased by 0.2% compared with the same month of 2025. Over January-April, industrial production declined by 2.5% to 69.98 billion rubles.

Industrial inventories stood at 11.755 billion rubles as of May 1. Compared with April 1, they decreased by 120 million rubles. Inventory levels amounted to 83.5% of average monthly production volume, down 1.6 percentage points over the month.

Fixed capital investment totaled 4.45 billion rubles in April. It increased by 5% year-on-year. Over four months, investment declined by 0.6% to 15.7 billion rubles.

In April, 160,000 square meters of housing were commissioned, down 26.5% from a year earlier, including a 48.6% decrease in state-supported housing construction to 19,500 square meters. In January-April, housing completions fell by 26.6% to 842,100 square meters, including a 41.2% decline in state-supported housing to 125,200 square meters.

Freight turnover increased by 0.2% in January-April to nearly 23.3 billion tonne-kilometers, while passenger traffic rose by 1% to 564.8 million people.

Retail trade turnover totaled 9.02 billion rubles in April. It increased by 6.9% compared with the same month of 2025. Over the four-month period, retail turnover rose by 6.2% to 34.66 billion rubles.

Wholesale turnover increased by 3.3% in April to 16.57 billion rubles. Over four months, it declined by 2% to 58.34 billion rubles.

Public catering turnover increased by 0.9% in April to 620.1 million rubles. Over January-April, it declined by 0.6% to 2.39 billion rubles.
