Anastasiya Makhamet has been appointed deputy to United Transitional Cabinet representative for social policy Volha Zazulinskaya. She will be responsible for work with volunteers and their families, according to the United Transitional Cabinet.
“The area of work with volunteers is very important for our representation and for the entire United Transitional Cabinet as a whole. I am very pleased that Anastasiya, who has relevant experience and deep involvement in the issue, will be handling it”, Zazulinskaya said.
Anastasiya Makhamet has a medical education and experience working as a medic. In 2020-2021, she took part in protests in Belarus. She is one of the founders of the independent trade union organisation of students at Belarusian State Medical University. At the end of 2021, she was forced to leave the country before completing her internship.
After the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, Anastasiya joined the Kalinouski Regiment, where she served as commander of the medical company and was responsible for organising medical assistance and evacuating the wounded from combat zones. In 2025, she ended her service due to health reasons.
In Belarus, Makhamet was sentenced in absentia to 18 years in prison on politically motivated charges.
