AFP reported on Sunday that French President Emmanuel Macron urged Aliaksandr Lukashenka not to allow Belarus to be drawn into Russia’s war against Ukraine. Reporting on the conversation, AFP cited an aide to the French president.
According to the source, Macron “emphasized the risk for Belarus if it allows itself to be drawn into the aggressive war” that Russia is waging against Ukraine. The French president “also urged Aliaksandr Lukashenka to take the necessary steps to improve relations between Belarus and Europe,” the AFP interlocutor added.
As previously reported, French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation with Aliaksandr Lukashenka earlier today. The talks took place at the initiative of the French side.
The parties discussed “regional issues and Belarus’ relations with the EU and France in particular,” Lukashenka’s press service said.
