Lithuanian border guards detained an Afghan citizen who presented a forged passport containing a Belarusian visa during a border check.
A passenger bus with Belarusian licence plates was travelling from Lithuania to Belarus through the Medininkai border crossing. Lithuanian border guards became suspicious of the passport presented by one of the passengers, a 31-year-old Afghan citizen.
The man was removed from the bus. After examining the document, border guards concluded that the passport was fake. The Afghan citizen claimed he had obtained the passport in Afghanistan. He said he had a Portuguese residence permit and was travelling to Belarus as a tourist. The passport contained a valid Belarusian visa.
The foreign national was detained and placed in custody. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the use of a forged document, Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service reported.
