Officers of Belarus’ Operational Customs seized about 2 kg of hashish brought from Poland. The shipment was hidden in a gearbox.
The detainees said they had received the gearbox from an unknown person in Poland, who asked them to deliver the item for “personal use” to a person from Minsk. They claimed they did not know that it contained hashish.
Investigators established that the recipients of the shipment were two minors.
A criminal case has been opened against one of the carriers over the illegal transportation of narcotic drugs across the border. The offence carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
“The Operational Customs is carrying out further measures and urgent investigative actions aimed at identifying all members of the transnational criminal group”, the press service of the Belarusian State Customs Committee said.
