The Kalinkavichy District Court has convicted a 50-year-old local resident of illegal hunting in the Prypiatski National Park. The district prosecutor’s office supported the prosecution.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in February 2026 the man travelled to the village of Dziarvishcha and, without a hunting permit or a licence to possess a firearm, shot a female wild boar in the national park’s hunting grounds. He butchered the carcass at the scene and transported it home on a homemade sledge. During an inspection of the site, law enforcement officers seized the animal’s hide and limbs. Environmental damage was assessed at 5,400 Belarusian rubles.

During the trial, the man admitted his guilt and said that a friend had given him the double-barrelled shotgun in the autumn of 2025. He had previously been convicted in 2022 of illegal firearms offences and poaching.

The court sentenced him to one and a half years in a maximum-security penal colony and banned him from hunting for five years. He was also ordered to pay 5,400 Belarusian rubles in damages. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
