Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told The Washington Post that the purpose of CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s visit was establishing contacts between security services.” He declined to provide further details, the newspaper reports.

A plane carrying Ratcliffe arrived in Moscow yesterday afternoon. During a daytime conference, Peskov said he was unaware of the purpose of the U.S. military aircraft’s arrival in the Russian capital.

Later, Peskov told Russian news agencies that Ratcliffe had not met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that no such meeting had been planned.

Several versions of the purpose of Ratcliffe’s visit to Russia have been raised in the media. He may have warned Moscow against carrying out mobilization and further escalating the war in Ukraine, as well as against conducting acts of sabotage in NATO countries.
