The share of passengers using paper tickets on Minsk public transport has fallen to 13.5%, according to Kanstantsin Halalobau, Director General of Minsktrans, Minsk-Novosti reports.

According to him, more and more passengers are switching to unified travel passes, whose share has reached 66.7%. Another 7.1% pay for their journeys through the OPLATI mobile application.

Halalobau said that Minsktrans employs 10,000 people. Its fleet consists of 2,103 vehicles, including 1,135 buses, 147 electric buses, 688 trolleybuses, and 133 trams. To support the electric bus network, 17 ultra-fast charging stations and 42 overnight charging points have been installed at company depots. The city has also equipped public transport stops with 500 electronic information displays.

Since 2014, Minsk has operated a color-coded concept for public transport: buses are painted yellow, trolleybuses pistachio green, and trams turquoise. This allows passengers to identify approaching vehicles even before the route number becomes visible.

Public transport accounts for approximately 10% of Minsk’s total budget. Passengers cover only about 30% of the actual cost of transportation, while the remaining expenses are subsidized by the city budget. The funds are used to purchase new vehicles, maintain and repair the fleet, support infrastructure, and pay employee salaries.
