Aliaksandr Lukashenka on Monday gave his conceptual backing to a proposal to expand the Drybin District, according to Anatol Isachanka, chairman of the Mahiliou Regional Executive Committee.

“The district will be expanded at the expense of the Chavusy, Horki and Mahiliou districts. Aliaksandr Ryhoravich instructed us to complete the necessary work and submit the relevant legal act. Together with the government, we will once again carefully review every aspect to minimise any inconvenience for people,” he said, BelTA reports.

The total area of the district will increase from 76,600 hectares to 96,000 hectares, while agricultural land will expand from 40,000 hectares to 56,000 hectares. The changes will affect 27 settlements with a combined population of about 960 people.

“Agromashservice will take over and farm the land. The enterprise will operate in the Drybin District but on land transferred from the Chavusy District. We are establishing the Zarya-Agro enterprise, which will operate in the Drybin District, although the land will come from the Chavusy and Mahiliou districts. Our breeding association, which is expanding the production of pedigree beef bulls, will receive an additional 2,000 hectares of land, along with the construction of a new complex, using land from the Drybin District and the Mahiliou District. The Horki Elevator will also expand its land holdings and operations,” Isachanka added.
