This year, Hrodna border guards at checkpoints seized nine drones, seven of which experts have already classified as aircraft models. The owners of the devices were held administratively liable and lost the confiscated equipment, the press service of the State Border Committee reported.
The agency reminded that individuals in Belarus are prohibited from importing, storing, circulating, operating and manufacturing civilian drones and aircraft models. The ban was established by Decree No. 297 of Sept. 25, 2023. Using a drone in Belarusian airspace may result in a fine of at least 20 basic units, or at least 900 rubles. Importing, storing, circulating, operating or manufacturing a civilian UAV or aircraft model is punishable by a fine of up to 30 basic units, or up to 1,350 rubles, with confiscation of the device.
It is noted that some remote-controlled children’s toys are also subject to the ban. The final determination is made by an expert examination. In the event of a repeat violation within a year, the liability may be criminal, carrying a sentence of up to two years in prison.
