The National Bank of Belarus has reported the amount of losses from unauthorized payment transactions over the first seven months of the year.

From January to July, citizens lost 25.3 million rubles. Compared with the same period last year, losses fell by 3.5 million rubles.

“Almost 93% of this amount was stolen using social engineering methods,” the National Bank said.

Belarusian banks managed to prevent thefts totaling 4.6 million rubles, 2.2 times more than a year earlier.

“The share of funds blocked by banks increased from 7.6% to 18.3% of the total amount of stolen funds,” the National Bank added.
