In June, the supply of foreign currency once again exceeded demand, although the gap was minimal at just US$21.1 million, according to National Bank statistics.
Foreign Exchange Market Turnover in June
Foreign exchange market turnover totalled US$14.46 billion in June, the highest monthly figure since the beginning of the year. Compared with June 2025, turnover increased by 21.7%.
Individuals purchased US$1.25 billion worth of foreign currency in June, the highest monthly volume since the start of the year. At the same time, they sold US$1.42 billion, making them net sellers of foreign currency by US$169.5 million.
Banks purchased US$7.48 billion worth of foreign currency during the month and sold US$7.51 billion. Their net supply amounted to US$29.1 million.
Non-residents purchased US$272.2 million worth of foreign currency in June and sold US$471.4 million, providing a net supply of US$199.2 million.
Belarusian businesses purchased US$4.28 billion worth of foreign currency during the month and sold US$3.9 billion. Demand from businesses reached its highest level this year, making them net buyers of foreign currency by US$376.7 million.
First-Half Results
Foreign exchange market turnover totalled US$75.4 billion in the first six months of the year, up 22.7% compared with the same period last year. In January–June, foreign currency supply exceeded demand by US$758.9 million.
Individuals purchased US$6.76 billion worth of foreign currency during the first half of the year and sold US$7.88 billion, resulting in a net supply of US$1.12 billion.
Banks purchased US$39.6 billion and sold US$39.5 billion over the six-month period, generating net demand of US$81 million.
Non-residents purchased US$1.64 billion worth of foreign currency in January–June and sold US$2.19 billion, providing a net supply of US$546.1 million.
Belarusian businesses purchased US$22.17 billion worth of foreign currency during the first half of the year and sold US$21.34 billion, resulting in net demand of US$828.9 million.
