The slowdown in inflation in the Belarusian economy is becoming sustainable, according to a weekly review of the economies of Eurasian Development Bank member states.
“Core inflation slowed for the fourth consecutive month, to 5.9% year-on-year after 6.4% year-on-year in March, indicating the sustainability of disinflationary processes in the economy. We forecast that consumer price growth will not exceed the target level of 7% by the end of 2026,” the EDB said.
Last week, Belstat published inflation data for April. Annual inflation stood at 5.4%, unchanged from March.
“Food inflation slowed to 6.3% year-on-year after 7.8% year-on-year a month earlier. This was largely due to a decline in prices for seasonal vegetables and fruits, which fell by 3.1% year-on-year in April after rising by 3.5% year-on-year in March. At the same time, inflation in the services sector accelerated as expected, to 8.4% year-on-year after 6.0% year-on-year a month earlier, due to indexation of housing and utility tariffs,” the EDB commented.
