Representatives of the United Transitional Cabinet and the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya are discussing the legalisation of political prisoners who were deported from Belarus to Lithuania but wish to relocate to Poland, the Cabinet reported.
Deputy head of the Cabinet Pavel Latushka is in contact with Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other authorities regarding the admission of former political prisoners.
The Cabinet’s representative for social policy Volha Zazulinskaya and Tsikhanouskaya’s diplomatic adviser Dzianis Kuchynski are working with the released individuals and human rights organisations in Lithuania to resolve the issue.
On March 19, following talks between John Coale and Alyaksandr Lukashenka, it was announced that 250 political prisoners had been released. Of them, 235 were allowed to remain in Belarus, while 15 were deported to Lithuania without passports. Three of them have since travelled to Poland.
