In Minsk, the creator of the Kinokong project, Andrei Kim, has been detained. According to the Telegram channel Sviashchenny Belavud, this happened in the middle of the week. The cultural manager was detained together with his wife, Nadzeya Kim. The reasons are unknown.
Kinokong is a Belarusian film project and distributor with the slogan “Cinema in Belarusian,” founded by Kim on September 5, 2012. The initiative was engaged in the professional translation and dubbing of films, animated features, trailers and videos into the Belarusian language, and also organised film screenings in various cities across the country.
The project became one of the best-known initiatives promoting Belarusian-language dubbing and made global cinema accessible to audiences in Belarusian. Among the full-length animated films dubbed by the team are “Inside Out,” “Inside Out 2,” “Soul” and “Luca.” Screenings regularly drew full houses and attracted tens of thousands of viewers across Belarus.
