Belarusian Poet Raisa Baravikova Dies

Raisa Baravikova died during the night of May 25–26.

She was 79. Raisa Baravikova was born in 1947 in the Biaroza District of the Brest region. She graduated from the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in Moscow.

She worked at Belarusfilm, for the newspapers “Literature and Art” and “Chyrvonaya Zmena”, and for the magazine “Alesya”. From 2002 to 2011, she served as editor-in-chief of the magazine “Maladosts”.

Raisa Baravikova entered literature in 1960. She was the author of numerous poetry collections, including “Chamomile Shore”, “Listening to the Heart”, and “Mirror for a Lonely Woman”, as well as the dramatic poem “Barbara Radziwill”. Her work was characterised by subtle lyricism, emotional depth and reflective exploration of love, time and the fate of women. She also translated from Russian, Ukrainian and Polish.
