Aliaksei Haroshka, the coach of a Belarusian youth football team who was injured in the drone attack on a bus carrying the team in Russia’s Bryansk region, has been discharged from the 432nd Main Military Clinical Medical Center. The information was released by the Belarusian Defense Ministry.

According to the ministry, Haroshka underwent several surgeries at the hospital and completed a two-week rehabilitation program. Aliaksei Trukhan, head of the Republican Center for the Treatment of Gunshot Wounds and Blast Injuries, said the coach would continue his recovery on an outpatient basis.

“As for this patient, he was deeply concerned not about his own health but about the boys, his players, who were injured in the bus. During one of our consultations, I noticed this and spoke with the boys. I passed on greetings from their coach and asked whether they were ready to continue playing. One is a goalkeeper, the other a forward. They said they were ready to keep training. I told Aliaksei that the children still saw him as their coach. It had a tremendous effect on him. We immediately saw him come back to life and become determined to recover.

He was worried not about himself but about the boys. We also know that the parents’ chat supported him and that the children back in Rechytsa kept sending him messages,” Trukhan said.

Haroshka thanked the military medical staff for the care he received.

“They patched me up a little here. But for rehabilitation, I want to go home. As the saying goes, home is where the walls help you heal. The boys are all eager to get back into action. So am I. I’ll get home, reset myself, and everything will be… Everything will be fine,” he said.

The bus carrying Belarusian children to the Russian resort city of Gelendzhik came under what was reported to be a drone attack in Russia’s Bryansk region on June 17. One accompanying adult was killed, while eight people, including six children, were injured. Moscow says the bus was attacked by a Ukrainian drone. Kyiv rejects the accusation and describes the incident as an information provocation.

According to previous media reports, the woman who was killed was Viktoryia Hrytsenka (Haroshka), the wife of Aliaksei Haroshka.
