The Belarusian Automobile Association has once again drawn attention to the decline in passenger car imports by legal entities. According to the BAA, the market is undergoing a change in its model.
In March, legal entities imported 1,600 vehicles. Compared with the previous month, imports fell by 22%, and by 44% compared with the same period last year. Passenger car imports by legal entities fell by 54% in the first quarter.
“Against the backdrop of the high cost of the recycling fee for businesses, traditional sales from stock are giving way to services for sourcing and delivering cars from abroad. This model has become dominant in the market: buyers have massively shifted towards importing through individuals, which makes it possible to optimise costs significantly,” the BAA said.
An additional impetus for these changes came from government Resolution No. 372, which limited quotas for importing electric vehicles without vehicle type approval. As a result, legal entities halved their imports of electric vehicles in March.
