An incident involving a Belarusian citizen occurred at the Medininkai border crossing point on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. According to Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service (VSAT), the man behaved aggressively and refused to comply with border guards’ demands.

The incident took place on Friday evening at the Medininkai checkpoint, which belongs to the Padvarionys border post of the Vilnius Border District of the VSAT. Two Belarusian citizens — a driver and a passenger — were traveling from Lithuania to Belarus in a Volkswagen Golf with Belarusian license plates.

According to Lithuanian border guards, the passenger was drinking alcohol inside the vehicle. He refused to respond to VSAT officers’ demands to leave the car and also ignored other lawful instructions from border guards. The statement says the man used obscene language, behaved inappropriately, and actively resisted officers.

To stop the incident and ensure safety, border guards used hand-to-hand combat techniques and placed handcuffs on the man. After his detention, he was placed in a temporary holding cell, where, according to VSAT, he continued to behave aggressively, used foul language, and refused to undergo a sobriety test.

Administrative protocols were drawn up against the Belarusian citizen for failure to comply with lawful demands of VSAT officers and for minor public order violations. He faces a fine.

Later, the man was taken from the checkpoint by a Vilnius police patrol.
