Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed his intention to appoint an envoy for Belarus. He made the statement while speaking to journalists.
“I have not appointed an envoy for Belarus. I want to appoint one,” Ukrinform quoted him as saying.
According to Zelenskyy, he plans to meet with several diplomats who could take up the position. He will make a decision afterward.
“I want a strong person as envoy for Belarus. I believe this is the right step. The efforts of Belarusian democratic forces should be supported,” he said.
As a reminder, last weekend in Vilnius, Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. At that time, information also emerged about the forthcoming appointment of a special envoy. Previously, a similar position was held for some time by former ambassador to Ukraine Ihor Kyzym.
