The Interior Ministry has revealed details of Friday’s fatal crash on Maskoŭskaja Street in Brest, which claimed the lives of three people.
According to the ministry, the rider of a Honda motorcycle and the driver of an Audi car were street racing on the busy road. As a result of a serious violation of traffic regulations and speeding, the rider of a Viper moped, the motorcyclist and his 32-year-old passenger were killed. The impact tore the woman’s body apart.
As previously reported, the tragedy occurred on the evening of July 31. At around 10:30 p.m., a 40-year-old man riding a Honda motorcycle toward the city limits collided with a Viper moped traveling in the same direction and ridden by a 45-year-old resident of the Brest District. Both riders and the motorcycle passenger died at the scene.
The Interior Ministry also reported another motorcycle crash in the town of Biaroza. On the morning of Aug. 1, a motorcyclist lost control, veered into a ditch and overturned. The man was killed, while his wife was hospitalized in serious condition.
Amid the worsening road safety situation in the Brest region, additional traffic police crews have been deployed to the area on the orders of Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakou, including motorcycle patrols from the Homiel and Hrodna regions. Additional units from the Interior Ministry’s Strela special traffic police unit have also been deployed.
According to the ministry, six road accidents occurred in the Brest region over the past two days, killing five people and injuring another five.
Traffic police inspectors have stepped up enforcement of road safety regulations, focusing primarily on motorcyclists. Particular attention is being paid to speeding and dangerous driving during the evening and nighttime hours.
