Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces carried out strikes overnight on Aug. 2 against several sites in Russia “that support the war and finance the aggression.”

He confirmed strikes on two strategic facilities in the Saratov region, including in the city of Saratov, located more than 600 kilometers from the front line. The targets were the Saratov Oil Refinery and the Engels military air base. He also reported a strike on the tank farm at the Lyudinovskaya oil depot in the Kaluga region.

“Our troops also successfully struck a site in the Bryansk region used for the storage, preparation and launch of attack drones. I thank all the soldiers of Ukraine’s Defense Forces who are expanding our long-range capabilities and delivering precise results. We are bringing the war back to where it came from,” the Ukrainian president said.

Russian authorities previously reported a drone attack on the Saratov region overnight on Aug. 2. Explosions were reported in Saratov and the neighboring city of Engels, followed by large fires. Governor Roman Busargin said two people had been killed. Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev also confirmed a drone attack on the Wildberries Novosemeykino warehouse.
