On July 31, the United Kingdom’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim to Belarus, William Longhurst, presented copies of his credentials to Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou.

Longhurst and Ryzhankou discussed the current state of and prospects for cooperation between Belarus and the United Kingdom.

“The meeting took place in an atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.

Before Longhurst, the post of chargé d’affaires ad interim was held by David Ward.

William Longhurst has more than 35 years of diplomatic service experience. He has served at British embassies in Japan, South Korea, Cambodia, Serbia and Switzerland, as well as at the United Kingdom’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

From 2019 to 2024, he served as deputy head of mission at the British Embassy in Switzerland and was also the United Kingdom’s consul general to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

The United Kingdom currently does not have an ambassador to Belarus.
