Three residents of Minsk’s Frunzenski District have been detained on suspicion of damaging surveillance cameras. Criminal cases have been opened in all three incidents on hooliganism charges.
According to the Interior Ministry, emergency services received reports on separate days about damage to three surveillance cameras installed in the Frunzenski District of the capital.
In the first case, a 33-year-old Minsk resident with multiple previous convictions was drinking alcohol outside a residential building and ignored residents’ complaints. After one of the residents pointed to a surveillance camera and threatened to call the police, the man climbed onto a concrete barrier, kicked the camera and twisted it off its mount.
The second incident occurred in a parking garage. A 17-year-old Minsk resident, previously convicted of hooliganism, first struck a surveillance camera with a football and then completely disabled it.
The third camera was damaged in another section of the same parking garage. Police determined that a 16-year-old college student was responsible. During questioning, the teenager said he had acted in an attempt to impress his friends.
“All those involved will be required to compensate for the damage caused,” the Minsk City Police Department said.
