In Belarus, the rules of the admissions campaign are changing, and a state commission is being created to oversee the preparation and conduct of the admissions process. This is stipulated by a decree signed today by Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
“The document is aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for applicants when entering institutions of higher and secondary specialized education through a fair competitive selection,” Lukashenka’s press service said.
Deputy Prime Minister Natallia Piatkevich has been appointed chair of the state commission overseeing the admissions campaign. The commission includes representatives of the Council of the Republic and the House of Representatives, as well as government bodies, supervisory authorities, and public organizations.
The commission has been granted powers to oversee the conduct of university Olympiads that provide preferential admission rights to higher education institutions that organize such competitions.
The decree stipulates that admission to universities in the part-time format will no longer require work experience corresponding to the chosen field of study.
The categories of persons entitled to preferential admission to educational institutions are also being уточнены in connection with the creation of a college under the Interior Ministry.
In addition, a profile-based examination is being introduced in the academic subject “History of Belarus in the Context of World History,” which is currently studied in grades 10 and 11 instead of the discipline “History of Belarus.”
