Lithuanian border guards discovered another weather balloon carrying cigarettes that had arrived from Belarus.
On May 13, border guards on duty in the Šalčininkai district noticed a descending balloon. At the landing site, they found the remains of the weather balloon and a package containing 1,500 packs of cigarettes. The border guards set up an ambush.
Several hours later, a man approached the fallen weather balloon. He had no identification documents with him, but border guards established that the cargo was being collected by a 23-year-old local resident.
The man was detained. The cigarettes, valued at 8,265 euros, were taken to a border outpost.
