Operations at Vilnius Airport were suspended at 8:45 p.m. local time because of several balloons, the airport’s press service reported. The airspace over Vilnius was reopened at 9:50 p.m.
“This evening at 8:45 p.m., air traffic at Vilnius Airport was temporarily suspended. According to preliminary data, the decision to impose airspace restrictions was made because of one or several balloons flying toward Vilnius Airport,” the statement said.
The airport’s press service noted that some flight delays may occur during the day due to disruptions in the rotation of crews and aircraft.
Passengers whose flights were affected or canceled because of the restrictions are advised to contact their airlines directly for detailed information.
