Belarus is introducing a new category of trains, along with other changes affecting the railway sector. The measures are предусмотрены by a law signed today by Aliaksandr Lukashenka.
The law clarifies several categories of passenger rail services. It introduces a new type of train — accelerated regional economy-class services.
The legislation also requires owners of railway infrastructure to keep records of, investigate, and report safety violations in railway operations to the authorised government body.
It expands the list of personnel required to undergo mandatory medical examinations, medical re-certification, and pre-trip or pre-shift medical examinations or assessments.
The functions of the Railway Paramilitary Guard have been transferred to the Interior Ministry’s Security Department.
“The law has been signed to create a modern legal framework and ensure that the economy and the public receive high-quality, safe and reliable railway transport services. It defines the general rights and responsibilities of both the infrastructure owner (the public railway transport organisation) and the owners of non-public railway tracks (other organisations whose production activities involve train movements and shunting operations),” Lukashenka’s press service said.
