The State Customs Committee has opened a criminal case against a group of individuals in connection with a scheme to import new goods disguised as second-hand items. The scheme was used to reduce the amount of customs duties payable.
According to the State Customs Committee, customs officers in Mahiliou uncovered a warehouse in the Minsk District where, over the course of a year, a Lithuanian carrier had delivered “new high-value goods that had been declared as used when imported into the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union.” An expert examination confirmed that the goods were new.
The goods were subsequently sold to business entities.
A court has already ordered the confiscation of a batch of 4,000 items worth more than 700,000 Belarusian rubles. Another 12,500 items valued at 1 million Belarusian rubles have been seized pending the court’s decision.
