Alyaksandr Lukashenka met Serbian Ambassador Ilina Vukajlović on Monday, saying misunderstandings between the countries are easing and assuring her of friendly relations between Minsk and Belgrade.

“There were certain misunderstandings. You are well aware of them. But we expect that all misunderstandings and various kinds of movements that are unclear both to you and to us are passing. Time changes many things. Especially recently, you can see how turbulent this mad world is. Nevertheless, our relations have developed and continue to develop well, despite certain nuances”, he said.

According to Lukashenka, Serbia is a kind, warm and close country.

“We have always treated and will continue to treat your country with the greatest respect. And we are not indifferent to the processes taking place in Serbia, how the situation is developing. Who, if not you, can provide such information — open, friendly information. It would be wrong to say that we are not aware of the situation in Serbia. We are monitoring it, we are aware of it as much as possible from a distance, the embassy informs us. Nevertheless, you know more and can draw our attention to issues that may not be visible from Minsk.

I would like to hear from you an assessment of what is happening in Serbia and what we in Belarus should focus on”, he continued.

Lukashenka assured that relations with Serbia would remain friendly.

“Serbia has always been something of an irritant for Western states. Your President often speaks about this. We understand that it is not easy for you. You do not share a border with us or with the Russian Federation — friendly states that are ready at any moment to come to your aid and provide financial, material and economic support.

Therefore, I long ago said that we would respect your policy towards Western countries, towards Belarus, Russia and so on. And this is what we have been doing in recent years”, he said.

In turn, Vukajlović thanked Lukashenka for his principled position.

“First of all, I would like to thank Belarus for its principled position regarding Serbia’s territorial sovereignty, as well as its continued support. Serbia also maintains its principled and responsible position that dialogue is the only possible way to resolve this most important and sensitive national issue. Support and understanding in this regard mean a great deal to us”, she said.

She also expressed gratitude for Belarus’s agreement to participate in the international specialised exhibition Expo 2027, which will be held in Belgrade. According to Vukajlović, around 140 countries and international organisations have already confirmed their participation.
