Belarusian fantasy folk band Irdorath has released a new music video for its song “Through the Storm Clouds,” the result of a creative collaboration and shared inspiration with leading figures of European pagan folk music — Steve Evans and Jenny Evans van der Harten, founders of the band Omnia.
According to Irdorath founders Nadzeya Kalach and Uladzimir Kalach, the song was written exactly one year ago during a period of profound physical and emotional exhaustion. After facing repression in Belarus, fleeing the country and relocating to Germany, the musicians had to rebuild their careers on the European music scene from scratch. At a time when doubts about whether to continue were particularly overwhelming, an encounter with their childhood idols changed everything.
“That meeting gave us so much inspiration that we not only found the strength to keep going — we wrote this song,” the musicians said.
The “Through the Storm Clouds” video is intended to offer encouragement and support to everyone navigating their own storms on the way to achieving their dreams.
The video also features Yan Irdorath Kalach, the newborn son of Nadzeya and Uladzimir, who was born in July.
Irdorath is a Belarusian fantasy folk band founded in 2011 by Nadzeya and Uladzimir Kalach. The group combines medieval, pagan and original musical influences and has gained international recognition through its large-scale live performances and appearances at major European folk festivals. In 2021, Nadzeya and Uladzimir were imprisoned in Belarus on politically motivated charges and sentenced to two years in prison. After their release, they emigrated to Germany, where they resumed their musical careers and reassembled the band.
Omnia is a music group based in the Netherlands, founded in 1996 by Steve and Jenny Evans van der Harten. Widely regarded as one of the leading ambassadors of European pagan and Celtic folk music, the band is known for its acoustic ethno-folk sound, use of ancient instruments, nature-inspired philosophy and independent artistic approach. Omnia has also had a significant influence on an entire generation of fantasy folk bands around the world. Among its best-known songs are the energetic anthem “Fee RaHuri,” the mystical composition “Eis Aettir” and the driving track “Wicca Man.”
