Belarusian Railways plans to purchase 30 new passenger carriages and 100 freight wagons in 2026. The first 15 passenger carriages are expected to be delivered by Sept. 1 and will be used on the Minsk–Moscow route. The announcement was made by Valery Varenich, head of Belarusian Railways, as reported by BelTA.
“According to the manufacturer’s assessment, the first batch of 15 passenger carriages will be delivered by Sept. 1 for operation on the Minsk–Moscow route,” he said.
According to Verenich, the new passenger carriages meet modern standards of comfort and safety and are equipped with additional amenities for passengers.
He added that the existing fleet of freight wagons is sufficient to fully meet the needs of both domestic and international cargo transportation.
At the same time, work continues to modernize the railway infrastructure. This includes repairs to railway tracks, signaling, centralized traffic control and blocking systems, as well as upgrades to communications systems through the introduction of new data transmission technologies.
Since the beginning of the year, Belarusian Railways has transported around 28 million passengers. Nearly 45% of them purchased tickets using digital services, including the mobile application and self-service ticket machines.
Among the company’s key projects is the launch on April 2 of cross-border rail services between Belarus and Russia. Belarusian Railways said it is continuing work to expand the network of such routes, including the Smolensk–Orsha–Vitsyebsk line, as well as possible rail links connecting Mahiliou and Homiel with neighboring Russian regions.
